40th Class Reunion

We had a good turnout to the reunion despite the weather . It didn't rain but the wind blew 40 miles an hour and we were glad we had cover for the food. Gary Lingo reserved us a spot at the Lions Club shack in Dufur City Park. It would have been a very uncomfortable day if we didn't have it.We had good eats and Dave smith manned the gas grill. He is know known as "Flamin Dave". We had burgers, smoked sausage and chicken breasts on the grill and everyone brought potluck. The food was great. Everyone had a good time exchanging stories, pictures of their families and talking old times from school. Several members of other classes showed up Saturday night at the Dufur Pastime and on Sunday at the picnic. Sue Mundt, Linda Ricketts, Allen Sullivan, Tony Commander,Cliff Kochis, Bob Snyder, Sue Elmore, and Duane McLaughlin.
The weather kept alot of committed classmates away, but we had a good turnout. Classmates who attended were (using surnames):

The reunion is almost here..........

Its almost that time and we are looking forward to seeing everybody. We are going to have a wonderful turnout and theres a lot of excitment about being together and sharing lifes stories. I will post pictures and stories next week. Hope the weather holds out. Please keep in touch and post your lifes stories and comments here on the blog. Please let me know if you move or change address's so we can let you know of any events that will be coming up. It has been suggested that we have a annual get-together every year. Let us know what your thoughts are and we will discuss this on Sunday at the reunion.

Have rsvp's from quit a few classmates. We have 20 classmates and spouses/other coming so far. I will be calling everyone in the next two weeks to follow-up on the ones I haven't heard from. Almost all the ones that have called are from out of town. Classmates that live in The Dalles please call me at 296-2882 and let me know if you plan to attend. Vern Lane and Gary Denny are inviting all to a no host gathering Sat. night at the Dufur Pastime. They have great food (not for the diet conscious), come and join Vern and Gary for some brews.

Its potluck Sunday so bring your favorite dish, salad or dessert. Please bring your lawn chairs, a extra lawn chair would be nice for some of the out -of -towners. We will provide burgers, dogs, and beverages. If you have a special diet requirement please let me know, we can accommodate.

Jeanne Henson O'Blenes is coming from Maine. It will be her first reunion to attend. We have several classmates that are traveling from the East Coast.

Vern Lane RSVP"D last Friday and wants to know if anyone will party with him on Sat. night. You guys that want to party on Sat. pm contact Vern at 971-227-1435.
The Dufur Pastime is always a good place, good eats and pool too.

Update on the reunion..

We have had a great response to the postcards sent out last week. I have received only 5 back that were not deliverable.We have 18 people and their spouses coming.Please RSVP as soon as you can so we can plan food and other preparations. I have had requests for email address's and I do not have many. I have a snail-mail address list and phone numbers and not too many email addresses. It would be nice if you could include your email address when you RSVP if you want it to be given out. It seems that the computer and iphones are now common place. It was suggested that we have a annual camp out too. The classes of 64 and 65 do this every year and have moved their camp out to Dufur Park . Their camp out this year is Aug. 222-23rd . Will keep you posted on progress.

MIssing addresses for classmates..more details

Postcards are going out soon for the reunion. Its interesting that 75% of our class lives within 150 miles from The Dalles. Most classmates have not moved since the farewell reunion in 2002.

If any of you know the addresses of the following people , please let me know.
Jerry Meyer, Vickie Mangum, Sharon Olds, Deanna Sandy, Kristine Earls.
I have a list of addresses, if you are looking for someone and would like their address please let me know. I found almost everyone in the Whitepages or Dex online.

We are not charging a fee for the reunion. If we run into any major expenses we will "pass the hat" to help defray the cost. Local residents are asked to bring lawn chairs, a favorite dish, salad or dessert. Meat for the BBQ and beverages will be supplied. If you plan on swimming , the pool does charge a fee.

Camping is available in Dufur or the other best place is Memaloose State Park between the Dalles and Mosier (westbound) . Reservations are required at both. The best motel rates are Super 8 and Hotel 6 in The Dalles. Cousins Country Inn ( http://www.cousinscountryinn.com/ )has recently remodeled and has a restaurant but is more expensive.The Balch Hotel B&B is a wonderful place to stay. They provide a free breakfast. their rates are posted on their website: http://www.balchhotel.com/ . The Dufur Pastime is open on Sundays for breakfast but closed on Mondays, they have great food.

Class Reunion

It has been suggested to have a oneday get together at Dufur City Park sometime in August or September. Anyone interested in having a great day of BBQ, swimming, horseshoes, baseball, and anything else that may interest you, please post on the blog by email. We can set a date and plan for some fun. Due to the economical situation I don't think a full fledged reunion would be possible. There is a RV park and the Balch Hotel in Dufur is open and has been remodeled. They have a website, http://www.balchhotel.com/ and reservations can be made from there. The Dalles is still economical with Hotel 6. Most of us are still around here, becoming fossils (LOL).
